Fab Lab

Learning comes to life - literally - in VikTech's Fab Lab, a hands-on learning space that encourages students to explore their imaginations, share ideas, learn and design together.

Our mission is to build both technical and creative confidence in our students and to foster an entrepreneurial mindset with a maker’s sensibility. We learn by "doing" and by making mistakes in a safe and collaborative setting.

Students who wish to use the Fab Lab should sign up for one of our co-curricular design activities which will help in the development of the skills needed to design from home and plan ideas for digital fabrication. Students can also join one of our mini project sessions and gain more in-depth understanding on how to use the machinery available in a Fab Lab.

PROTOTYPING MATERIALS

The Wall of Things spans the entire room and features an array of consumable materials, scrap materials, components, and tools ranging from crafts to electronics in an organized and searchable format.

Our Design Studio features three cutting machines for making decals, T-shirts, flexible circuits, and paper creations. Here, we learn the basics of computer-controlled cutting.

These machines are easy to use and help students and users get into the world of digital fabrication. Advanced users will push the limits of what is possible and use the machines to explore creative electronics and textile design.su

We encourage the use of 3D printers as a way to design small functional objects with big impact. Students learn CAD and how to use 3D printers to make useful things and custom components.

A laser cutter is one of the most popular machines in any Fab Lab. Fast, precise, and versatile. Students use this machine to cut parts or engrave markings for prototypes and finished projects using cardboard, wood, fabric, acrylic, or paper.

A precision mill, CNC router and smart tools are available to make circuits, furniture, molds, or finished parts for prototypes..

Our vacuum former can be used to make custom casings, molds, and used to experiment with bio plastics.
